Long time no see guys. I was so busy with all of those co-assistant stuff, until I got these 2 weeks off. YAYY. But, unfortunately, I had to spend my last week to prepare for UKMPPD registration. Wish me luck!
Going to Padang was out of my plan. My friend told me that she had an engagement so I bought the ticket to celebrate her day! Since I had one day-free before her party, I thought I had to explore Padang for a day at least.
Okay, so here's my story along the trip
Arriving in Minangkabau International Airport will give you a little picture of Padang scene because of those 'minang kabau' architecture as the characteristic of traditional houses in Padang. You may find a lot of those hornlike-roof structure along the way to the city from airport.
Beside the architecture, Padang also well-known for their traditional foods. After tasting the soto padang in Bopet Rajawali Juanda, we continued our journey to one of the best World's Halal Restaurant - Lamun Ombak. Padang foods such as Rendang, Dendeng Balado, Ayam Gulai, have their unique taste compared to other Indonesian Traditional Foods. Since I was in Padang, it is a must to eat Padang foods at their best restaurant.
The serving was nice and fast, I tried Ayam Rendang (Dry chicken curry) , Udang Balado (Prawns in spicy balado sauce), Ayam gulai (chicken cooked in spicy yellowish sauce), Sala Lauak, and they were unexpectedly delicious. I thought I should try every menu they had. For those who can't eat spicy food, better try their ayam pop.
After filling my stomach with delicious foods. we went to Masjid Raya Sumatera Barat - as the biggest masjid in West Sumatra for having Dzuhur. We took many photos there since it has been the major icon of Padang City now.
We directly went to Pantai Air Manis- well known for its Malin Kundang story (Folktale about retribution on an ungrateful son. A sailor from a poor family, eventually becoming rich, marrying a princess, and acquiring his own galleon. On his return to his home village, he is ashamed of his humble origins and refuses to recognise his elderly mother. She curses him, and when he sets sail, he and his ship are turned to stone). if ypu want to enjoy the beach, there are ATV rental 100.000/hour, but since the beach not good enough, I won't recommend you before the beach being renovated.
Imagine this stone as malin kundang bow for his mother |
We went to Pantai Padang thereafter, to spot sunset. But the sky was cloudy so I couldn't get any of the sunset pictures.
After enjoying sunset, we were hungry and stopped by in a Martabak Restaurant - Malabar Arham and order their iconic Martabak Mesir. It was nice for dinner.
Actually the best spot in West Sumatera located in Bukittinggi. Because the main access to Bukittinggi was ruined, I only spent my holiday in Padang. Hopefully I can visit this lovely West Sumatera once more.
Wish me a lot of money guys :)
By the way if you're looking for souvenirs, I recommend you to buy Asese Rendang Basah and Dendeng Balado. Soooo delightful.
as a bonus picture - Happy engagement my pretty best friend!
